ELVIS PRESLEY has been gone for more than three decades, but his music lives on through various convincing impersonaters who take it upon themselves to project the King on stage.

One such impersonater is Max Pellicano who entertained around 1,000 local fans at a charity dinner organised by the Lejadi Group, at the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa recently.

A major portion of the funds raised at the event was via ticket sales to the show, which cost RM260 for diners and RM68 for non-diners.

An auction of two jewellery pieces sponsored by De Gem and one crystal platter of handpainted chocolates from the JesseChantelle celebrity chocolates in collaboration with Lavand helped to bring the amount raised to RM75,660.

The main beneficiary of the fund was the Malaysian Liver Foundation, which received RM20,000.

The other beneficiaries were SSL Haemodialysis Welfare Foundation, Rotary Club Bukit Bintang’s Ray of Hope programme, Friends of Kapar and four individuals with heart defects under the New Straits Times Press charity fund.

Pellicano, who bore a striking resemblance to Presley belted out popular hits such as Love Me Tender, Jailhouse Rock and Blue Suede Shoes accompanied by a 21-member entourage of musicians, back-up vocals and dancers.

Known for being the World’s Best Elvis Tribute Artiste and World’s Best Livin’ Elvis, Pellicano, who is half-French and Italian, was brought back due to popular demand after his fundraising concert last year.

Local entertainers Jzelynn and Amanda Imani perfomed in between Pellicano’s costume changes while Miss International Malaysia 2010 Chantelle Chuah entertained the guests with a magic show.

Lejadi Group president Tan Sri Lim Ewe Jin was coaxed to sing twice by Pellicano during the performance.

The charity dinner show was organised as part of the group’s Carin’ And Sharin’ Thru’ Music – Corporate Social Responsibility events that aim to raise funds for those in need.

Also present at the event were Health Ministry director-general and Malaysia Liver Foundation president Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and Setiawangsa MP Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique.
